Picked as one of ABBA’s highest rated inns, this elegant, colonial-styled bed & breakfast is a perfect getaway spot. It is located in Marblehead, Massachusetts, just 45 minutes north of Boston. Marblehead is a coastal town dotted with boutiques, art galleries, and museums such as the Civil War and G.A.R. Museum, and Marblehead Museum. 2. The Essex Street Inn

Sticking with the traditional colonial-styled design, this clean and cozy bed & breakfast can be described as a home away from home. Located in downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts, it is roughly an hour’s worth of travel north of Boston. If you are thinking of getting out on the town, be sure to stop by the Ipswich Waterfront, and also tour some of the historical houses in the area such as the Paper House or Castle Hill on Crane Estate. 4. Captain’s House Inn

This bed & breakfast in Rockport on Whale Cove is an hour’s worth of travel from Boston, but it is worth it. It is located right on the rocky coastline, with amazing views of the ocean. There are 5 rooms available, each with a more modern beach-cottage design to them. As tempting as it is to stay at the inn the whole time, definitely try to visit the twin lights on Thatcher Island, the Cape Ann Museum, the Halibut Point State Park, and the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center. If you are an avid fisher, try your hand at striped bass fishing right off the rocks at Captain’s House. For some fine dining, make dinner plans at My Place by the Sea or Duckworth’s Bistrot.

5. The Salem Inn

If you are planning to stay in Salem, MA, this Inn is the place to be. It is just a 45 minute drive from Boston, and it is actually three different historical homes, West House, the Peabody House, and Curwen House, that have been renovated to offer over 40 quaint, cozy rooms. Make the most of your time in Salem though by checking out the House of the Seven Gables, touring the Salem Witch Museum, riding the Salem Trolley Tour, and sailing on the 1812 replica of the schooner Fame. As for dining out, the innkeeper’s recommendations, Dube’s Seafood Restaurant, the Ugly Mug, and Bambolina, are all great restaurants to check out.
