Maria Hastings Elementary School is one of six public elementary schools in Lexington, MA named after Maria Hastings Cary, a local philanthropist and the founder of the town’s main free public library, Cary Library. The building, constructed in 1955 with additional teaching spaces added at later dates, includes a library, rooms for art and music, a gym and a cafeteria. In addition to the 21 general education classrooms, the school provides support services that include guidance, literacy, mathematics, special education, speech and language, physical therapy, occupational therapy and adaptive physical education.
The school provides a multi-disciplinary and differentiated educational experience for students with a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 ranking it the 3rd Best Public Elementary Schools in Massachusetts and 54th in the US by Niche.com. The school community also includes a highly supportive and active Parent Teacher Association.
