Boston Summer Camps

Parents in the Boston area have a lot of exciting options when it comes to finding vacation programs for their kids. Summer camps in the greater metro area offer stimulating/social programs for both teens and younger kids no matter their interests. The camps offer physical and intellectual development programs, academic and enrichment, creative arts, and special interest programs.  We have highlighted a few of the many great camps in the Boston area below.

Boston R.O.C.K.S. Out!!

The Centers For Youth and Families offers an alternative to a traditional program at a single location. Children from the area can take part in activities at community centers and parks around the city. The program is run on a first-come-first-served basis and is an excellent opportunity for parents who need help during the summer due to work schedules, and children who need more socialization. The program is offered on a sliding scale, making it accessible for lower income families.

Thompson Island Outward Bound

Middle school students enrolled in the public school district can enroll in Outward Bound Summer Expeditions programs on Thompson Island. Challenging programs teach them teamwork and survival skills. The 5-Day Backpacking Expedition on the 204-acre preserve allows students to investigate marshes, forests, and beaches, and learn communication skills to work together as a team. The 7-Day Kayaking Expedition teaches students how to paddle, procedures for capsizing and rescuing, navigation skills, and weather forecasting while exploring the Harbor Islands.

Harbor Discoveries

The Harbor Discoveries program at the New England Aquarium is part of the Ocean Classroom Foundation and offers students the opportunity to study themed programs about marine life including sharks. The Schooner Adventure program allows students to study marine science and go aboard a Grand Banks schooner for a five-day sail around Massachusetts Bay. While onboard, they learn how to set the sails and take turns at the helm, steering the ship.

Cape Cod Sea Camp

Cape Cod Sea Camp in Brewster, MA offers three and a half week or seven-week programs for students eight to seventeen years of age. The activities are designed to foster positive beliefs with spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional programs. The camp is co-ed with between ten and fourteen students and two to four counselors in each cabin. Activities include sailing, rowing, archery, dance, woodworking, and cooking.

Camp Kenwood and Camp Evergreen

Wilmot, New Hampshire is only about two hours north of Boston on 180 acres. The facility is co-ed, with boys and girls having separate activities during the week including, swimming, water skiing, rock climbing, diving, theater, photography, drawing, painting, and ceramics. Two counselors with seven or eight children are in each cabin. the groups come together on some evenings and weekends for activities that include a music festival, hobby nights, and a counselor and camper hunt. The facilities consist of the lake, athletic fields, courts, dining hall, and theater.
